Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay born August 24 72, in Long Beach, CA. DuVernay was encouraged by her aunt Denise at the age of an infant. Her aunt was a nurse who stayed overnight so that she could have an opportunity to study and literature, or even theater. DuVernay was first introduced to the film West Side Story by her aunt. DuVernay saw how art was an effective way to spread the cause of activism. DuVernay was trained by her mother, who had a social conscience and instilled DuVernay to show her creativity through art. Although DuVernay grew up within Compton with her family she spent every summer in Lowndes County Alabama where her father's family lived for generations. The father of DuVernay's mother recalled civil rights marches on the Edmund Pettus Bridge and the Selma town that was nearby, Alabama. DuVernay was strongly influenced by the summers she spent in Selma, and later directed an documentary on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. DuVernay graduated with a high school diploma from Saint Joseph High School, Lakewood California in 1990. In the year 1990, she graduated from Saint Joseph High school in Lakewood California. DuVernay started broadcasting journalism as an elementary school student. Her career began working as an assistant at CBS News in the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay remembers being assigned to sit at the house of one member of the jury and examine their junk. DuVernay was dissatisfied with her journalistic duties and decided to change to the world of public relations. DuVernay started her career as a junior publicity assistant in a tiny film studio, right after graduating from college. The DuVernay Agency is her first agency for public relations. Alongside PR, the agency has also launched lifestyle networks as well as promotional campaigns, such as the Urban Beauty Collective.
